Kaley's Weekly Wear- 3

Hello again, friends. I join you again from my desk here in Waco with a bit of a confession to make.
This is how I prepare to write. Iced coffee and mustache glass in hand.
Actually, I have to put the glass down before I start typing, but you get what I mean.

You see, I've had a few pretty good hits this week. A couple of misses, too, but let's focus on the positive for a second.

I wore a cute dress to the Farmer's Market. I went to a birthday dinner early in the week and wore one of my favorite vintage dresses (and heels!). The other night I went roller skating (where I was seriously injured in a selfless- and successful- attempt to avoid rolling over a child), and I think I pulled together a pretty solid casual look, which is rare for me. We all know what my typical "casual" wardrobe is. (If you don't yet, read on-- you will soon.)

In my mind, I was keeping track of my average style score for the week, and I was feeling pretty good about it. But I made a colossal mistake.

I didn't take any pictures of the previously mentioned ensembles.

I'm still trying to get in the habit of getting pictures of myself- or asking people to take pictures of me. There are few things I hate more than being the sole subject of a photograph, so asking for that to happen on a daily basis is quite counterintuitive.

So I'll be honest- last week's "best" wasn't necessarily my best. It was just the one I wore the day before I wrote that post.

This week I did things a little differently. I put one of my best outfits back on this morning and had my sister take a picture of me in our front yard.

So there you have it. My confession.

That's why half of my photographs are self-portraits in the mirror, and the other half aren't in cool locations like the Brooklyn Bridge.

Well, you can also partially blame that on the fact I live in Waco. But mostly it's the first thing.

Anyway, next week I'll try to overcome my self-consciousness and have legitimate pictures for you all.

Okay. Now that I've cleared my conscience, let's do this.

THE WORST:

That Dove chocolate wrapper next to my mirror says, "You make everything lovely." Not today, Dove chocolates. Not today.

Here we are once again. Me. My ill-fitting v-neck. Some Nike-shorts. But this time I traded in my ribbon flip-flops for my Baylor flip-flops, which I would never dare to speak ill of.

Also- that's a neon green sports bra sticking out of the shirt there. Just to class it up a bit.

To give this ensemble a little bit of context, I wore it into the office that morning. (I know.) I had to run in to do a few quick things, and I didn't feel like showering. Or getting dressed. So I wore this, thinking I'd be able to get in and out without seeing many people.

But as luck would have it, all the classes got out early that day to have a big social hour in the main lobby.
The one I had to walk through upon entering the building.
Right as this gathering was happening.

Awesome.

One of the students I work with saw me and said, "Ahhh, Kaley!" and then proceeded to laugh at me because I looked "different."

It was a real confidence booster.

THE BEST:

My front yard is almost as pretty as the Brooklyn Bridge. Go on- look at all that dead grass. I'll see if I can print up postcards for anyone that puts in a special request.

Now if you read my entry from last week, I know what you're thinking- this is almost the exact same outfit. And to that I would say, "You right."

But I'm pretty proud of the fact that I thought to pair purple and orange in this ensemble. Do people do that?? Maybe it's obvious to everyone else, but I thought it was a bold move.

I guess the shirt looks more red in photos, but it's orange. And the wind makes the skirt (and my hair) look weird, but it has a 50s flare and pockets that make it fantastic.

So, anyway, here's the line-up:

Shirt: Still Old Navy
Skirt: J-Crew outlet (making it even more eerily similar to last week)
Necklace: Still Old Navy
All the other Accessories: Target

Much like Christy, that belt is probably the #1 item on my "Most Worn" playlist. I love belting skirts and dresses. I struggle to wear one without a belt, actually. I just think it's the perfect accessory- it pulls everything together and emphasizes the smallest part of my body? MVP of my closet, for sure.

There you have it. Awkward photos of my worst and best for the week.

As Christy mentioned, we would love to see what you're wearing. Send us pictures of yourself- or even pieces of your outfit. You might be featured right here!

Send us a tweet here or here.

We look forward to being inspired!!

Also- keep an eye out for the wrap skirt tutorial! It should be posted soon!

  2. I have a question, you belt geniuses. I bought two belts wanting to hop on this belt-around-the-belly train about two weeks ago. I have worn one but don't know what things I can wear with them. I know that I can wear them with dresses. Any other suggestions you professional fashion bloggers you?? :)

    1. Hey Amber!

      Thanks for your question!

I think how you wear your belt depends mostly on its width. I wear think belts over dresses and high waisted skirts like it is my job. But if one of your belts is thing, it's probably a bit more versatile. You can still wear it over the previously mentioned items, but you can also tuck shirts into shorts or jeans and wear it that way (Christy does this all the time- I'm still working on this look for myself). You can wear them over cardigans, too! And for long, thin belts- there are a lot of ways to tie them so you're not stuck using just the normal belt buckle!

This is a great question- we might have to dedicate a whole post to belts sometime soon!! :)
