Kaley's Weekly Wear- 2

Alright, snitches.

(That's the word my sister's summer roommate used instead of the "b" word. I kind of like it, so I'm trying it out here. I feel like it catches people off guard, it's nicer than actually calling people b words, and it reminds me of Quidditch. Win win win.)

This week I think I've done pretty well in the style department. I kept remembering the photo of myself in the mirror with those flip-flips and imagining what people in that fro-yo shop were thinking when they saw me. Needless to say, I've been overcompensating quite a bit.

Despite the fact that I'm not really required to look "professional" at work, I've stepped it up a few notches over the past few days. I am proud to say I shaved my legs 3 times this week so I could wear skirts and look nice! (Obviously it's okay to wear a skirt when your legs are a little stubbly the day after shaving, and then I wore jeans one day.)

That being said, I think my overall grade is much improved over last week.

BUT

There is one outlier. (One of the few terms I remember from my statistics course last year.)

THE WORST:
Modeling for this photograph, I was channeling George Michael Bluth as he walked around like Charlie Brown- full of shame and sadness. I therefore need you to have Vince Guaraldi Trio playing in your mind as you look at it.**

So, on first look, this outfit might not seem that bad. Just some yoga pants and a semi cute top, right? You might even be thinking the outfit is kind of okay.

But let me true confessions this for a second.

I wore this when I was picking up a student in the morning. (We're talking a graduate student, by the way, not a five-year-old who can't differentiate between what's alright to wear out of the house and what isn't.)

I didn't feel like waking up that day, so I slept in 30 extra seconds and just didn't change shirts before leaving. Which means I slept in it..

And I may or may not have worn it roller skating the night before.

That's right. I wore it out. Then wore it as pjs. Then wore it out again. All without taking it off my body.

(Cue Charlie Brown music... now.)

It was a pretty quick trip out of the house, so I might try to justify it in my mind for a little while longer.

Fortunately, the rest of the week I wore outfits that didn't double as pajamas. Let's take a look at one of my favorites:

THE BEST:
I had to check with my sister on this outfit to make sure it was okay. I asked "Is this cute, or do I look like a Chico's ad?" She said it was good, so if you hate it blame her.

Shirt and necklace: Old Navy
Skirt: J. Crew (Outlet- what up!)
Shoes and ring: Target

Alright. First of all- a word about the skirt: It's navy blue and it's not asymmetrical. I can be honest and say I don't understand that trend. But I do love that thing. I normally wear it as a dress. That's right. It serves many purposes. It's fantastic that way. And super comfortable. And it covers up my stubbly legs the day after I shave.

I paired it with an orange shirt because (true story) blue and orange has been one of my favorite color combinations since I was a little girl learning about Egyptian history. (And by that I mean reading this book.) When I was young I noticed blue and gold were kind of the main colors in Egyptian sarcophagi, and I always thought they were really pretty. So blue and orange became my main aesthetic- from my Crayola drawings then to my fashion sense now.

The bag is one of my favorites. A) it's big and can carry everything I need for an entire day. Probably an entire week if I pack strategically. B) It zips up into a little pouch if I need to pack it! C) It supports a really great cause. So check it out if you're in the market for a versatile bag. They have a lot of other trendy and awesome bags, too, and buying one makes you look great AND feeds kids. Awesome, right?

Here's a close-up of my jewelry. And here's another fun fact about me: I have a really hard time spelling jewelry every time I write it. We're talking each time I've typed it in this post I've had to delete it and try again. I'm not sure why I struggle so much with that word. But regardless- I recently saw the elephant necklace on a mannequin (a word I have no problem spelling), and when they didn't have it anywhere else in the store I stole it from that thing's poor headless, pale body and took it home. After paying for it, obviously. It's one of my favorite new accessories. (Again, no problem with that word.)

This is just me doing a Tina Fey jig, which perfectly communicates how awkward I feel every time I know someone is taking a picture of me. I'm not sure why I thought it'd be a good idea to put pictures of myself in a blog every week.

Well, there you have it! My best and worst for the week.

Anyone else have any favorite accessories right now?? We'd love to hear about them (or see pictures of them!) if you do!

**If you didn't notice from the "I'm a monster!!!!" reference in my first post, I'm a huge fan of Arrested Development. If you are, too, word on the street is they've started production on a fourth season! Just in case you haven't heard.

  1. Really??? A 4th season???? Who's producing it and where will they show it?! You need to give more info than "word is". If you're going to get some people's hopes up, then you need to be able to back it up.
And a Chico's add? Really? I think you've just insulted most women over the age of 60.
It's a good thing for you that I'm not in that category.
And as for the orange and blue .... the colors of my Jr. High. And the color of my cheerleading uniform.
Which still didn't make it look good.

I thought I raised you better than to go pick up someone wearing the clothes you slept in, which were also the clothes you wore the day before.
I see that I have failed.
    Big time.

Sigh ..... it's so hard to be a mom.
    :)

  2. If only Kanye had learned your trick to use "snitch" instead of "b$#%&"...Kim's life could've been so different now.
